There's nothing wrong with seeking support when you need it
Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through past difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is most effective with those who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand. Engaging in therapy usually means you’re accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking an additional perspective.
Therapy will vary from individual to individual
Because everyone has different issues and goals, therapy will vary from individual to individual. In general, you can expect to discuss what's currently happening in your life, personal history related to your issue, and any insights gained from the previous therapy session.
To get the most out of therapy you must be an active participant in the process.
The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you incorporate what you learn in session into the way you live your life. People seeking therapy are ready to make positive changes in their lives and are open to new perspectives on learning to take responsibility for their life choices.
Long-term solutions to mental health issues can't be solved by medicine alone.
It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the root cause of your distress and the behavior patterns that curb your progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness. Working with your medical doctor you can determine what's best for you, and in some cases, a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.
Face-to-face contact in my office is by far the most conducive to connective therapy. Communication is greatly enhanced when verbal and body language are combined.
